How do We Get a Special Use Permit from the National Park Service?

What is a Special Use Permit?

A National Park Service Special Use Permit is a short-term legal authorization required for any activity that provides a benefit to an individual or private group rather than the general public. To best manage park resources the National Park Service requires most activities to obtain a permit. The National Park Service only permits activities which are appropriate to the purpose for which the park was established, and for activities which can be sustained without causing unacceptable impacts to park resources.

Why do I Need a Special Use Permit?

The NPS uses these permits to protect park resources, ensure visitor safety, and minimize conflicts between park users. You need one if your activity requires written authorization or specific management control by park rangers to prevent environmental damage or public disruption.
